SIGN: AGAINST SPAIN’S CLIMATE INACTION
WHAT?
With these signatures it is sought that the citizenry adheres to the first judicial process for inaction before climate change.
WHO?
The lawsuit was initiated by Intermón Oxfam, Ecologists in Action and Greenpeace.
HOW?
Both Ecologists in Action and Greenpeace collect signatures as another way to demonstrate citizen demand on the climate emergency. Citizen accessions will be included in the documentation submitted to the Supreme Court, as another example of the existing social concern on this issue.
WHERE?
Both in Ecologists in Action as wel as Greenpeace websites.
WHEN?
From now until the holding of the trial. The contentious-administrative appeal filed last September 15 by Ecologists in Action, Greenpeace and Oxfam Intermón against the Government of Spain for climate inactivity was admitted for processing by the Third Chamber of the Supreme Court.
HOW MANY?
It seeks to get as much support as possible. It can be signed by any individual resident in Spain.
WHY?
The Government has breached the EU Regulation on the governance of the Energy and Climate Action Union, which establishes a National Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) and a long-term strategy (ELP) definitively last December. The temperature in Spain increased by 1.7ºC, which caused, for example, the loss of more than 80% of the Pyrenean glaciers. A rise in sea level of between 10 and 68 centimeters is expected by the end of this century. Pressing governments like Spain is one of the ways the population has to force a real commitment in defense of the planet.
