SIGN : SOS SUÍDO SEIXO-MINA ALBERTA NON

WHAT?

Although the original goal was to collect signatures for the Xunta de Galicia to submit the “Alberta I” mining project to the Common Environmental Impact Assessment procedure and to comply with and enforce all the conditions required by current regulations, the collection of signatures continues with the aim of showing the rejection of any future project that does not comply with environmental regulations.

WHO?

It has been launched by SOS Suido-Seixo, a platform formed to prevent open mining in the Suido and Seixo mountain ranges. The mining project has been started by the company Recursos Mineros de Galicia S.A.

HOW?

Through the campaign to collect signatures, they intend to make the opening of the mine visible, warn of its possible effects on the natural environment of the mountains and force the administration to comply with current regulations.

WHERE?

The mine will open in Doade (Beariz) and could affect the municipalities of Avión, Beariz, Forcarei, A Lama and Cerdedo-Cotobade. Signature collection takes place on the Change.org website.

WHEN?

From now until the stoppage of the open mining project “Alberta I”.

HOW MANY?

It seeks to get the maximum possible support. Any individual person can sign.

WHY?

The mining operation has not been subjected to an environmental impact assessment, despite meeting the requirements for it. The information provided has been scarce and difficult to access for the neighbors. Mining will affect the mountain, its natural and cultural values   and many localities, due to the loss of springs, heavy traffic or the continuous detonations of explosives. Only the future economic benefit of the concessionaire is taken into account.
