WHAT?

Collection of signatures against the EU-Mercosur Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

WHO?

Several European and Latin American organizations are aware of the consequences of this possible treaty, such as the Rede Brasileira pela Integração dos Povos [Brazilian Network for the Integration of Peoples] or the Marcha Mundial de las Mujeres Macronorte [World March of Macronorte Women].

HOW?

The signatory organizations adhere to the text issued from https://www.bilaterals.org/?el-acuerdo-entre-el-mercosur-y-la&lang=en to demand Mercosur authorities not to sign or ratify this FTA.

WHERE?

On the web https://www.bilaterals.org/?el-acuerdo-entre-el-mercosur-y-la&lang=en, at the proposal of the platform https://americalatinasintlc.org/.

WHEN?

From November 2020 until the complete abolition of the negotiations on the treaty.

HOW MANY?

Given the importance of the problem, and the number of people it affects, any support is welcome.

WHY?

Because it puts many SMEs in South America at risk, eliminating tariffs on the import of European manufactured goods, causing a dramatic increase in unemployment. Because no reliable studies of economic, ecological and gender impact, among others, have been published. Because it is estimated that GDP will fall 0.1% in Mercosur, to the benefit of the EU. Because it is very possible that privatizations in strategic sectors of Latin America will increase for the benefit of European multinationals. Because it is estimated that the only great beneficiary in Mercosur is intensive agribusiness, which will affect both small family farms, the region’s environment (especially the Amazon), and the carbon footprint (as the exports). For numerous other reasons, environmental, labor and on the most vulnerable populations.
