SIGN: US MUST WITHDRAW CHARGES AGAINST ASSANGE

WHAT?

Collection of signatures to demand that the US withdraw the charges against Julian Assange.

WHO?

It has been launched by Amnesty International, an NGO for the defense of human rights, focused on political and civil rights, which acts at an international level. Julian Assange is an activist and journalist who rose to fame due to the leaks of the wikileaks organization.

HOW?

The collection of signatures aims to paralyze Assange’s extradition, guarantee his human rights and allow him to leave for a safe country where his arrest or extradition will not be carried out.

WHERE?

Assange is incarcerated at Belmarsh Prison in southeast London, where he awaits a decision on his extradition. The collection of signatures is an international campaign.

WHEN?

From now until January 4, 2021, the date on which the British judge will make the decision on extradition.

HOW MANY?

It seeks to get the maximum possible support. Any individual person can sign.

WHY?

Assange faces 18 charges in the United States under the Espionage Act, for which he could be sentenced to 175 years in prison. The publication of classified documents on military operations was clearly in the public interest, and not an act of espionage. The US seeks to “set an example” through Assange in order to continue acting with impunity. We cannot let this precedent be set.
